Non-EU vs EU coverage

News stories about intra-EU mobility tend to focus on economic and welfare issues, while those about migrants from outside the EU focus more on security issues. REMINDER’s analysis of millions of articles dealing with migration and intra-EU mobility showed a distinct difference between the ‘framing’ (effectively the types of issues discussed and not discussed) in stories about these two types of migration and migrants.

The analysis also highlighted that stories about intra-EU migrants are often more positive than those dealing with migration into the EU from elsewhere, and that Eastern European countries — which tend to send more workers to other EU member states than they receive — tend to be the most positive in their depictions of EU migrants.

Why the split?
